Anthropic is preparing to release a new version of its artificial intelligence model, Opus 5.5, on Tuesday. The update is a modification of the costs, the functions and the memory capacity of the software. To compare it to Opus 5.1, the developers reduced the amount of data the system processes right away. There are different prices for users. It has new capabilities for tasks - but the context window is smaller than the previous version.

The developers are testing the new model secretly while using the codename "claude-wafer-eap". In the beginning the developers planned to name the software Opus 5.2 - but they increased the version number to 5.5 because the current code differs significantly from Opus 5.1. The model functions at a level that is equal to Astra & Fable 5.1. It possesses specific capabilities for 3D modeling and the development of user interfaces. The generated results contain few errors and show that the system follows specific instructions closely.
The company sets the cost for Opus 5.5 at $4 for every million input tokens and $20 for every million output tokens. To read from the cache is $0.20 but to write to the cache is $5 - this structure of costs ensures the new model is one fifth less expensive than Opus 5.1. The context window is 872 000 tokens, which is smaller than the previous limit of 936 000 tokens.

The release of Opus 5.5 aims to position Anthropic competitively against other major AI models in the market. Early assessments suggest that Opus 5.5 may outperform competitors like GPT-6.
